Barco, a Belgian company founded in 1934, is a leader in high-quality projectors for cinema, events, and corporate use, known for innovative laser technology and sustainability, serving over 90 countries worldwide.
The Motion Design department at Ringling College of Art and Design has the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Barco. This collaboration involves projecting onto the Larry R. Thompson Academic Center, formerly known as The Academic Center building, which was completed in 2009.
I created a short animation inspired by inflating text and mixed typography. Since this was for a school event, I wanted to express the values that our college represents best. In Korea, we have a phrase for someone reaching their full potential: we say their “potential is popping.” To convey this idea, I chose the word "Potential" for the animation.

During the first projection test, I was able to assess the contrast and how the animation appeared on a large-scale screen for the first time. Unlike smaller screens such as tablets or TVs, viewing the animation on a building-sized display revealed the need for increased contrast and additional frames to enhance the animation's fluidity and impact.

For large wall projections, colors can fade and contrast tends to be lower, so I chose bright yellow and purple, with a strong complementary contrast, to ensure visibility and impact.
